RedBuilt™ Receives FSC® Certification at Hillsboro Plant

BOISE, Idaho (July 21 , 2010) – RedBuilt™, formerly the Commercial Division of Trus Joist®, announced the Forest Stewardship Council has awarded a chain-of-custody certificate for engineered wood products the company manufactures at its Hillsboro, Oregon plant.

RedBuilt’s FSC®-certified products now include all series of open-web trusses (Red-L™, Red-W™, Red-S™, Red-M™, and Red-H™) and Red-I™ joists, as well as RedLam™ Laminated Veneer Lumber and glulam beams at all four RedBuilt manufacturing plants. The FSC® certification for the Hillsboro plant follows previously awarded certifications for RedBuilt’s facilities in Stayton, Oregon, Chino, California and Delaware, Ohio.

Incorporating FSC®-certified building materials such as RedBuilt’s engineered wood products can earn points toward LEED® certification. LEED®, an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. The certification is increasingly a requirement for public works projects, and a growing number of architects, developers and engineers are adopting the organization’s sustainable building and development practices.

RedBuilt products can contribute to the following LEED® points: MR4.1-2, MR5.1-2, MR7, and EQ4.4, and they support seven different categories of the Green Globes building rating system.

“I’m pleased to announce the most recent expansion of RedBuilt’s FSC® certification at our Hillsboro plant. We are well positioned to meet FSC® requests for a wide rang of building projects throughout the United States and Canada,” said Kurt Liebich, President and CEO of RedBuilt.

RedBuilt has a longstanding history of efficient wood fiber utilization and responsible fibersourcing practices. Providing FSC® certified products as an option to the construction industry is in alignment with the company’s culture and business practices.
